| CHEMISTRY
Department Profile
The Department was started
in the year 1958 with the sole aim of providing facility for higher
education to the wards of families in and around Mayiladuthurai,
whose major profession is agriculture. The B.Sc., degree course
in Chemistry was started in the year 1958. The evening section
B.Sc., and M.Sc., courses were started in the year 1988 and 1991
respectively.
Laboratory Facilities
The department has UG Lab , PG Organic & Inorganic Lab,
PG Physical chemistry Lab, Balance Room and store Room.
The department has U.V mini spectrometer deionizer,
Thermostat, Digital conductivity meter and potentiometer.
Innovative curriculum
B.Sc., Chemistry students
have two elective papers pharmaceutical chemistry and Agricultural
chemistry. M.Sc., chemistry students have Elective papers
Environmental chemistry and petroleum
chemistry.
B.Sc., chemistry students have a paper on pharmaceutical
chemistry which helps them in acquiring jobs like medical
Representative.
M.Sc., chemistry students have a paper on petroleum and
petroproducts This helps them to join Petroleum Industry.
Other Regular Activities
Industrial visit - M.Sc.,
chemistry students make an industrial visit every year to Chennai
Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) Cauvery basin Refinery
Panangudy Nagapattinam.
