Department Profile
The college is one of the leading Institutions imparting
quality computer education since 1984. The Department of Computer
Science offers the following courses : B.Sc., from 1984,
M.Sc., from 1987, PGDCA from 1998, MCA from 1991, and BCA
from 2001. These courses have been carefully designed based
on the guidelines given by the Department of Electronics (DOE),
Bharathidasan University and the feedback from IT industry.
The main aim of the Department is to educate the students to
rise up to the growing demands for computer professionals in
the dynamic IT industry.
Laboratary Facilities
The Department has a separate Computer Science block having
15,000 square feet area, which includes a state-of-art computer
centre and fast access Internet browsing centre built at a cost
of Rs. 1.5 crores.
SWIFT
The Students' forum SWIFT (Student's Wing
of Information Technology) was started in Feb. 1996. Its main aim is to
improve the communication skills, inculcate leadership qualities and
give exposure to the latest emerging areas through guest lectures,
seminars, workshops and competitions.
Innovative
Curriculum:
Under the autonomous scheme the M.C.A and the M.Sc., courses
aim to develop the students knowledge and skills to utilize
computers for productive work in business, scientific applications
in industries and research laboratories. Considering the rapid
rate of obsolescence in the IT field, the courses have been
designed to meet the challenges of the industry, by giving ample
opportunities for the students to undertake projects in software
houses as part of the curriculum. A combination of all such
requirements for the completion of the courses helps the students
gain both managerial and technical skills.
