Department Profile
The Department of Economics had its genesis in 1958 along with the starting B.A., Economics. Prof M. Viswanathan, the second Principal of the College, was the first Head Of The Department. M.A., Economics was started in 1970. It was elevated to the status of a research department by starting M.Phil. and PhD., programmes on Part time Basis and Full time Basis from 1997 and 2000 respectively.
The Economics Association
The main aim of the
Association is to train students to organize meetings, debates, etc,
on economic themes in both Tamil and English. This platform
is used by the students to get leadership qualities .
