Department Profile

The Department of English was established on 5th July
1955, the day on which the college was
inaugurated. Initially it offered English to the students
of intermediate classes. B.A course in English
literature was started in the academic year 1979 - 1980. P.G
course was started in the evening session in 1992 -
1993. The department is at present headed
by Mr. S.Sivakumar, ably assisted by 19 other faculty
members. One member possesses Ph.D. degree and 12 members are qualified
with M.Phil degree. Two members are progressing in their
Ph.D programme and four members are doing M.Phil course at present.
Language Laboratory:
The English Language
laboratory offers the spoken english course, Linguaphone. It was set
up in August 2004. Both members of the staff and students join this
programme and get benefited. It is a London based
programme. The participants have to under go the course in four
levels. Those who complete all the four levels will be
issued certificate by the
London Insititute. Classes for Day
college students are conducted in the afternoon, and Evening
session students take classes in the forenoon.
