Department Profile
The Department of Tamil was
established on 5th July 1955, the day on which the college was
inaugurated. Initially it offered Tamil to the students of
intermediate classes. It offered part-I language course
for the U.G Students later on. It began offering M.Phil course as a
Part time programme. M.A tamil is offered in the evening stream
from 2001 onwards. M.Phil is started on a full time course from
2005. The Bharathidasan university has granted permission to guide
researchers aspiring for Ph.D. The Department has become a full
fledged center for Higher Research studies in Tamil Literature from
2005. B.A., Tamil
is
started from the academic year 2007-2008.
Language Laboratory:
The
curriculam of MA Tamil contains two practical papers, Padaippilakkiyangal for the
first year students and another Ithazhgal Uruvakkam. The Tamil Literary Association
, a constituent body of the dept that identifies the latent talents of the students
and trains them in public speaking.
Tamil Seminars:
Many conferences,
seminars, symposium and workshops are arranged by the department. The
papers presented are collected and brought out as books. One such
conference is a U.G.C Sponsored "Seminar on Human Rights" as revealed in
Tamil literature. A Book has been brought out on this which has
won a cash award from the government.
Dr.T. Nedunchezhian, Lecturer, has launched the
